Krista Vansant named MVP of the Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 21, 2015 – Krista Vansant of champions
United States was selected as Most Valuable Player of the
XIV Women’s Pan American Cup played at Lima and Callao from
June 13 to 21. Vansant was also selected as the First
Outside Hitter in the All-Star Team with a success
percentage of 50.39. Cuban Melissa Vargas, who was both the
Best Scorer and Best Server of the competition, was named
the Second Outside Hitter. Brenda Castillo of Dominican
Republic joined Vargas as a triple-awarded player in the
closing ceremony receiving.

USA wins third crown in four years
LIMA, Peru, June 21, 2015 - United States captured their
third title in the last four years at the Women’s Volleyball
Pan American Cup with a clear victory in straight sets 3-0
(25-20, 25-20, 25-15) over the Dominican Republic at Eduardo
Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Sunday night. The triumph enabled
USA to tie with Cuba at the top of all-time list in gold
medals with 4 at the annual intercontinental event.
Dominican Republic and Brazil, the only other countries with
titles in the history of the competition, both have won
three times. The new champions dominated their opponents in
attacks (43-27), blocks (11-5).

Argentina grabs third bronze medal at Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 21, 2015 – Argentina claimed their third
bronze medal in the history of the Women’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup by outplaying Cuba in straight sets 3-0 (25-23,
25-23, 25-20) at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Sunday.
By finishing in third place in the annual event, the
Argentinean side equaled their previous best finishes in
2008 and 2013 in Tijuana, Mexico and Lima, Peru,
respectively. Cuba was left out of the podium for third
consecutive year. Emilce Sosa with 13 points, including one
block and two aces, was the best scorer for Argentina,
followed by Yamila Nizetich and Florencia Busquets each with
10 points.

LIMA, Peru, June 20, 2015 - Dominican Republic will face
United States in the gold medal match of the XIV Women’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup following their semifinal 3-1

Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Saturday night. The
Dominicans held the advantage in blocks 13-8 with Marianne
Fersola leading the way with four and took the win despite
giving away 35 points via unforced errors. Yonkaira
Peña topped the scorers of the winning team with 19 points,
followed by Gina Mambru and Marianne Fersola with 16 markers
apiece. Brayelin Martinez chipped in with 10.

Puerto Rico to play Canada for fifth place
CALLAO, Peru, June 20, 2015 - Puerto Rico will play Canada
for fifth place at the XIV Women’s Volleyball Pan American
Cup following their 3-1 (19-25, 25-9, 25-21, 25-21) victory
over Brazil at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao on Saturday.
After losing the first set the Puerto Ricans got their
energy back and dominated the rest of the way leading in
attacks 56-39, blocks 15-12 and aces 5-0. Stephanie Enright
was the best offensive player for the winners with 17
points, including four blocks and one ace. Yarimar Rosa and
Shirley Ferrer contributed 16 and 15 in the victory while
Alexandra Oquendo and Sheila Ocasio concluded with 12 and
10.

Canada to play for fifth place at Pan Am Cup
CALLAO, Peru, June 20, 2015 - Canada advanced to the match for
fifth place of the XIV Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by
defeating Colombia 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 25-9) at Miguel
Grau Coliseum of Callao on Saturday.
The taller Canadians outblocked the Colombians 15-7 and held a
6-1 margin in aces. They also had the advantage in attacks 47-37
and made fewer errors 24 to 28 by the opponents.
Kyla Richey was the best scorer for the winning team with 15
points, followed by Tabhita Love with 13, three blocks included.
Lucille Charuk had four blocks among her 12 points and Jaimie
Thibault chipped in with 11, two blocks and two aces included.
Amanda Coneo had 14 points for Colombia and Ivonne Montano added
10 in the loss.

breath-taking victory in five sets 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 25-20,

Rico in a nail-biting five-setter 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 29-27,
23-25, 16-14) advancing to a semifinal clash against United
States at the XIV Women’s Pan American Cup taking place at
Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima. Melissa Vargas, who
finished with a tournament-high 30 points, recorded five
aces to tie the all-time record of 25 set by Mexican Ana

After losing its first two matches in five sets, Brazil
dominated the match against its South American neighbors by

Cuban Melissa Vargas threaten record of aces
LIMA, Peru, June 15, 2015 – Cuban young sensation Melissa Vargas
came up two aces short of tying the single match record for the
Women’s Pan American Cup after landing seven serves in the
five-set victory of Cuba over Brazil at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum
on Sunday.
Vargas, the leading scorer of the event with 37 after two days
of actions, couldn’t match the record of nine aces set by USA’s
Nicole Branagh against Puerto Rico on June 27, 2002 during the
first edition of the event in Mexicali, Mexico.

undefeated despite pressure from Mexico
CALLAO, Peru, June 14, 2015 – Argentina added another victory
this time in four sets by defeating Mexico (25-20, 25-13, 22-25,
25-18) in the second day of Pool A of the XIV Women’s Volleyball
Pan American Cup at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao.
Argentina was the superior team in attacks (43-39) and blocking
(13-4) and also made lesser errors with 29 compared to 39 by the
Mexicans.
The South Americans needed a change in strategy and players to
overcome the surge of a Mexican team that showed a lot of
character and strength. Argentina used their usual fiery spirit
to resist the pressure from a rival seeking for its first
victory in the competition.

Cuba held off a battling Brazil in five sets
LIMA, Peru, June 14, 2015 – Cuba held off a high-spirited Brazil
to claim a thrilling five-set victory (25-15, 25-23, 20-25,
22-25, 16-14) in the second day of actions in Pool B at the XVI
Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup taking place at Eduardo
Dibos Coliseum of Lima. It was the second victory for Cuba while
Brazil lost in five sets for second day in a row.
The powerful serves of Melissa Vargas and Yanet Jennifer Alvarez
were the difference in the match with the tandem scoring 7 and 6
aces, respectively. Cuba totaled 16 for the whole encounter.
Cuba led in attacks 50-47 and Brazil got the top hand in the
blocking category by a slight margin of 19-17.

Puerto
Rico overpowers Costa Rica
CALLAO, Peru, June 14, 2015 – Puerto Rico cruised to a
straight-set victory 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-10) for their first
victory in Pool A of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup
at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao.
The team captained by Yarimar Rosa looked solid outclassing the
Costa Rican side in every aspect of the game with advantages in
attacks (46-21), blocking (10-4) and serving aces (6-0).

USA defeats Colombia, captures second victory
CALLAO, Peru, June 14, 2015 – United States defeated Colombia
3-1 (25-21, 25-9, 23-25, 25-16) for their second victory in Pool
A at the XVI Women’s Pan American Cup being played at Miguel
Grau Coliseum of Callao. Colombia dropped to 0-2. In a game of
ups and downs the American needed four sets to prevail against
an inconsistent Colombian side. Despite losing injured middle
blocker Oyinkansola Ajanaku, USA dominated at the net with a
13-6 advantage in the blocking category and also led in attacks

Canada improves to 2-0 in Pool B
LIMA, Peru, June 14, 2015 – Canada outclassed Uruguay to improve
their win-loss record to 2-0 in Pool B of the Women’s Volleyball
Pan American Cup by winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-13) in day two
at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Sunday.
The taller Canadians dominated in the blocking category 10-0 and
outserved their opponents 6-2. The winners also held an
overwhelming advantage of 35-15 in attacks.
Canadian Jennifer Cross was the only player in the match who
reached double digits in the scores with 10 points, four blocks
included. Marie-Pier Murray added 8 points in the victory while
Shainah Joseph and Brittney Page contributed 7 points apiece.

Canada overcomes Brazil in five-set thriller
LIMA, Peru, June 13, 2015 – Canada edged Brazil in a five-set
thriller (15-25, 25-14, 15-25, 28-26, 15-9) in the last match of
Pool B in day one at the XIV Women’s Pan American Cup taking
place at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima.
The North Americans held the advantage in attacks 56-38 and
topped Brazil in the blocking department 15-11. The South
American side was better in aces 8-4.
Lucille Chanuk (16), Jamie Thibault (15), Brittney Page (14) and
Tabitha Love (12) topped Canada’s scoring charts.

USA starts with victory over Puerto Rico
CALLAO, Lima, June 13, 2015 – Reigning world champions United
States dominated Puerto Rico in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-12,
25-18) in the last match of opening day in Pool A at the XIV
Women’s Pan American Cup taking place at Miguel Grau Coliseum of
seaside city of Callao. Alexandra Klineman of United States
dominated at the net and was the most outstanding player of the
match with 14 points, including 11 attacks, two blocks and one
ace. For the Puerto Rican squad the best scorer was Stephanie
Enright who finished with 12 points. Yarimar Rosa, captain of
Puerto Rico, commented: “We didn’t show our real capacity, we

CALLAO, Peru, June 13, 2015 – Colombia scored an easy victory
over Mexico 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) in the second match of day
one in Pool A of the XIV Women’s Pan American Cup at Miguel Grau
Coliseum of Callao on Saturday. Based on the performance of
libero Camila Gomez and setter María Alejandra Marin, Colombia
team was able to structure a complex style the Mexican couldn’t
figure out. With powerful attacks down the corners the
Colombians got their first win in the tournament.

Cuba wins against tough Peru
LIMA, Peru, June 13, 2015 – Cuba overcame a resilient Peru
to score a straight-set 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) victory in
the second match of Pool B in front of a good crowd at
Eduardo Dibos Coliseum on Saturday. Young Melissa Matos was
the main offensive weapon for Cuba with potent spikes and
great jump services while the overall solid blocking allowed
the Cubans.

Twelve Coaches comment about their teams at Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 12, 2015 – The XIV Women’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup gets underway on Saturday with actions at two
venues – Miguel Grau Coliseum and Eduardo Dibos Coliseum – with
the opening day featuring six matches promising exciting plays.
Twelve teams – seven from NORCECA Confederation and five from
South American Confederation – are taking part in the
intercontinental competition organized by the Peruvian
Volleyball Federation under the supervision of the Pan American
Volleyball Union (UPV).
The coaches of the teams commented about the characteristics of
their sides during the preliminary interview of the teams held
at Los Delfines Hotel.

Organizers meet with UPV representatives ahead of Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 12, 2015 – The control committee members
and the representatives of the local organizing committee
held two working sessions on Thursday in preparation of the
start of the XIV Women’s Pan American Cup to be held in Lima
from June 13 to 21. The meeting took place at Los Delfines
Hotel and was chaired by Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz,
president of the Pan American Volleyball Union and Dr. Luis
Linares Pablo, president of the Peruvian Volleyball
Federation. Dr. Rafael Lloreda Currea, vice president of the
Pan American Union was also present. The representative of
both parts discussed the different topics related with the
organization of the twelve-team event.

Lima to host XIV Women’s Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 10, 2015 – The fourteenth edition of the
Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup will take place in Lima with
twelve teams battling for spots at the different groups of next
year’s FIVB World Grand Prix, the premier annual female
competition.
It is the second time in three years that the Peruvian capital
welcomes the best teams from the Americas for the exciting
event.
Defending champions Dominican Republic are among the six teams
competing in Pool B along with Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Peru and
Uruguay. The United States, winners of two of the last three
editions of the intercontinental tournament, will play in Pool A
which consists also of Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico
and Puerto Rico.
