Thousands followed stream video of NORCECA U18
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, July 2, 2014 – The recently concluded
NORCECA Girls’U18 Continental Championship generated impressive
interest from the volleyball fans reflected in the stats
released by the organizers on Tuesday.
The event was covered by local media, international agencies,
websites of NORCECA and FIVB and different sites dedicated to
the sport of volleyball.
One important aspect to be highlighted was the role played by
the social media which created a big impact.

Dominican Republic first title ever at Girls’ U-18 NORCECA
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 29, 2014.-
Dominican Republic defeated defending champions United States
with a 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20) victory at the Girls’
U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship in Gimnasio Nacional San
Jose, Costa Rica. This is the first title ever for
Dominican Republic in the history of this age-group competition;
they have one a total of two silvers and three bronze medals.

Costa Rica concludes Girls’ U-18 NORCECA in fifth place
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 29, 2014 – Hosts Costa Rica concluded
in fifth place at the NORCECA Girls’ U18 Continental
Championship defeating Guatemala 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-18) at
Gimnasio Nacional of San Jose.
This was the second victory of Costa Rica over Guatemala in the
tournament. Costa Rica finishes with a 3-1 win-loss record and
Guatemala with 1-3 for fifth and sixth place respectively.
The home girls held a big advantage in spikes 33-15 and
outserved the opponents.

Dominican Republic to finals, wins spot to FIVB WCH
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 28 - Dominican Republic dominated
Mexico 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-14) at Saturday’s semifinal to
reach the final match of the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental
Championship. The Dominican Republic also booked a ticket to the 2015 Girls’
U-18 FIVB World Championship and will face defending champions
USA in the Gold Medal Match. The two teams have met three times

United States book first ticket to Girls’ U-18 FIVB WCH
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 28, 2014- Defending champions United
States beat Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) to advance to
the Gold Medal match of the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental
Championship.
With USA’s victory they booked the first of three tickets
granted for the 2015 Girls’ U-18 FIVB World Championship and
will have the chance to earn their seventh title in a row on
Sunday’s gold medal match against the winner between Dominican

Trinidad and Tobago defeat Honduras for seventh place
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 28, 2014 - Trinidad and Tobago
defeated Honduras 25-23, 26-24, 25-15 to finish in seventh place
at the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship at Gimnasio
Nacional of San Jose, Costa Rica. The Caribbean team, who concluded pool play as the highest
ranked third place, earned their first victory to finish with a
1-2 win-loss record while the Central American had a 1-3 mark. Trinidad and Tobago were the superior team despite their
disadvantage.

Mexico to face Dominican Republic in Semis
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 27, 2014- Mexico won the
quarterfinal match over hosts Costa Rica in straight sets
(25-11, 25-15, 25-13) and will play Dominican Republic in
the semifinals of the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental
Championship. With advantage of 28-13 in attacks, 10-3 in
blocks and 12-1 in serves, Mexico completely neutralized
Costa Rica’s strategy. Their consistent spikes and serves
showed they’re prepared for next round. Mexico’s offensive
line was led by outside hitter.

Puerto Rico reaches the Girls’ U18 NORCECA Semifinals
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 27, 2014.- Puerto Rico reached the
Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship Semifinals after
defeating Guatemala 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) at Gimnasio
Nacional of San Jose, Costa Rica.
Puerto Rico fell in a series of unforced errors and the Central
American team got closer in sets two and three. Puerto Rico will
face United States in Saturday’s semifinal and Guatemala will
play for fifth and six positions.

Honduras beat St. Lucia for first victory
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 27, 2014- Honduras trounced St. Lucia
3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-22) for their first victory at the Girls’
U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship on Friday. Honduras took advantage of St. Lucia’s unforced errors in the
first two sets, but then had difficulties with their passing in
the third set before recovering rapidly. Honduras will play
Trinidad and Tobago for the seventh position while St. Lucia
finishes the tournament winless and in ninth place.

Costa Rica claims Pool A over Guatemala
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 26, 2014- Hosts Costa Rica prevailed
over Guatemala 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-13) to claim Pool A
of the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship at Gimnasio
Nacional in San Jose. Costa Rica suffered the loss of setter
Fernanda Paredes due to a minor injury at the beginning of the

Dominican Republic stops Puerto Rico to top Pool C
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 26, 2014- Dominican Republic defeated
Puerto Rico in straight sets 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 on Thursday to
top Pool C at the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship
at Gimnasio Nacional of San Jose, Costa Rica. It was another strong performance by the Dominican Republic
squad neutralizing Puerto Rico’s attacks. Both teams displayed
talented young players who battled strongly all the way, with

USA wins Pool B at Girl’s U-18 NORCECA
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 26, 2014- United States earned top
place in Pool B with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19 ) victory over
Mexico at the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship in
San Jose, Costa Rica on Thursday. The Americans blocked Mexico to take control of the match after

Dominican Republic storm past St. Lucia
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 25, 2014- Dominican Republic stormed
past St. Lucia 3-0 (25-4, 25-2, 25-4) in their debut at the
Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship on Wednesday. The
winners held a huge advantage of 39-2 in spikes and 14-0 in
service points, showing superiority over St. Lucia who now has a
0-22in-loss record in Pool C. Dominican Republic relied mainly
on the performance of opposite Massiel Matos, who contributed 4
points, 11 kills and 3 aces; and outside hitter Natalia Martinez
who added 13 points all kills.

USA Team power past Honduras
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 24, 2014 - Defending champions United
States displayed a lot of power while brushing aside Honduras
3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-8) in their debut at the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA
Championship on Tuesday. With a better structured game, the Americans faced no resistance
from the Central American team. United States put Honduras
under pressure with their strong services. A great superiority from United States was evident in their
stats against Honduras as they held a 33-5 advantage in spikes,
8-0 in blocking and 16-0 in serves.
Topping USA’s scorers was spiker Milan Stokes with 14 points,
including 7 service points and 2 blocks.

Puerto Rico tops St. Lucia in opening match
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 24, 2014- Puerto Rico defeated St.
Lucia 3-0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-5) in the opening match of the Girls’
U-18 NORCECA Championship at the Gimnasio Nacional in San Jose,
Costa Rica. St. Lucia couldn’t control Puerto Rico’s strong serves and had
no chance to turn things in their favor.
Puerto Rico held a huge advantage of 30-3 in kills and 17-0 in
service points, they were also better in the blocking category
by 5-2. Puerto Rico took advantage of 23 St. Lucia’s errors.
The only player with double digits, Alejandra Negron with 12
points, led Puerto Rico’s victory, with 3 aces included.

USA dominance at U-18 to be challenged
in San Jose
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 22, 2014 – Six-time defending
champions United States are one of nine teams to compete at the
NORCECA Girls’ U-18 Continental Championship to be played in the
city of San Jose, capital of Costa Rica, from June 24-29. Since the inception of the event in 1998, the dominance of the
United States representative has been more than evident as the
Americans have won seven of the eight editions of the
competition to go with one silver medal.
Puerto Rico, with a gold medal in 2000, when the event took
place in the Dominican Republic.
