Rolando Cepeda is the MVP of the IX Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 16, 2014 - Cuban captain Rolando Cepeda
captured the MVP honors at IX Men’s Pan American Cup, while his
fellow patriot Javier Jimenez finished as Best Spiker.
Argentina had representation with two players like Rodrigo
Villalba as Best Defense and Franco Lopez as Best Libero.
Puerto Rican Mannix Roman was the Best Blocker of the
competition as well as Cuban David Fiel. The Best Setter was
Robert Boldog of USA, while the Best Reception was awarded by
Jose Rivera of Puerto Rico.
Venezuelan Kervin Pinerua was the Best Server and Dominican Jose
Cáceres was recognized as Best Opposit. The top scorer of the
Tournament was Puerto Rican Maurice Torres, with 102 points.
Torres scored 84 points by spike, 8 by block and had 10 aces.

Norceca makes history with five teams classified to FIVB World
League
For the first time in history a total of five teams of the
Norceca Volleyball Confederation are part of the FIVB World
League.
The United States, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada will
play at this competition in the year 2015, after their results
in the final ranking of the IX Men’s Pan American Cup.
USA and Cuba used to be the only representatives at the FIVB
highest yearly event. Now there is a champion that advances to
the First Group, while the rest of the best classified teams,
will be alocated in Groups II and III.
The world league has increased the expectations around the
different regions. The Americas are divided in two
Confederations Norceca and the South.

Cuba returns to the Top of the Americas
TIJUANA, México, August 16, 2014.- Cuba returned to the top
of continental volleyball after beating the United States in
three sets at the IX Men’s Pan American Cup finals. Scores
were 25-16, 25-23 and 25-23.
Captain Rolando Cepeda finished with 20 points. On the
American side, Taylor Averill and Taylor Crabb finished with
9 apiece. Cuba also converted 9 key points in blocking game
against 7 by USA. Captain Zachary La Cavera scored 8 points
as well as Scott Kevorken.
“We are so glad for this result. We really worked hard on
getting this result. Fos us it was a product of team work
and a big effort in all aspects. We return with the gold
medal and prepare hard for the next thing.

Argentina claims Bronze Medal at Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 16 2014.- Argentina claimed the
Bronze Medal at IX Men’s Pan Am Cup after beating Puerto
Rico in five sets. The scores were 25-21, 25-23, 20-25,
24-26 and 18-16.
Maurice Torres scored 32 points for Puerto Rico, joining to
the 30’s club in the history of the Cup. He also aced three
times. Jackson Rivera scored 15 and Mannix Roman 14, while
Jose Rivera finished with 10.

Venezuela finishes in fifth place after beating Mexico
TIJUANA, México, August 16, 2014.- Venezuela finished in
fifth place IX Men’s Pan American Cup after beating Mexico
in four sets (22-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23).
Captain Kervin Pinerua finished as top scorer with a total
of 19 points, with two aces. Maximo Montoya scored 13, two
in aces, while Jesus Chourio closed with 11, all of them for
Venezuela. For Mexico, Carlos Guerra converted 13 points and
Daniel Vargas 9.
“We finished with a victory and a spot in the World League
and We will go to Qatar to continue with our preparation for
the World Championship in Poland”, Venezuelan captain Kervin
Pinerua expressed.

USA advances to IX Men’s Pan Am Cup Final
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 15, 2014.- Zachary La Cavera, captain of
United States scored 25 points in the victory of the American
Team over Puerto Rico in straight sets (28-26, 25-22 y 26-24).
Taylor Crabb also contributed with 12 points, while Puerto Rican
attack was distributed among Maurice Torres (13), captain Héctor
“Picky” Soto and Ezequiel Cruz, with 10 points apiece.
American blocking game finished 9-6 in points over Puerto Rico.
Also a 3-2 aces advantage was in favor of the team coached by
Charles Sullivan against David Aleman’s squad.
“We were winning 23-18 in the first set. They made a rally and
came back to take that set, it could be on any side. We wanted
to go to the final, but hope to get the bronze against
Argentina,” David Aleman, coach of Puerto Rico stated.

Cuba becomes first finalist at Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Baja California, August 15, 2014.- Cuba became the
first finalist at IX Men’s Pan American Cup after defeating
Argentina 3-2 (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 23-25, 15-13). Javier
Jiménez Scull and Rolando Cepeda combined a total offense
of 49 points, with 23 and 26 units respectively, while David
Fiel closed with 11 points on the Cuban side. Argentina
fought hard until the end with Pablo Koukartsev as the South
American’s best weapon by recordin 15 points. Rodrigo
Villalba followed him with 15, and Lucinao Zornetta scored

Canada finishes in seventh place at Mens Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 15, 2014.- Canada closed with a win his
participation at IX Men’s Pan Am Cup with a comeback in fourth
and fifth sets, by beating Dominican Republic 3-2 (25-21, 22-25,
22-25, 25-16, 15-13).
Jose Caceres made a total of 22 units for the Caribbean team
finishing as leader. He was followed by Elvis Contreras who
tallied 16 points while Luis Adames scored 12.
On the Canadian side, Bradley Gunter, Nicholas Del Bianco,
Dallas Soonias and captain Toontje Van Lankvelt were the best
weapons. Gunter and Van Lankvelt registered 13 points, while Del
Bianco and Soonias recorded 12 apiece.

Semifinals are already set for IX Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 14, 2014.- The semifinals at IX Men’s
Pan Am Cup are already defined after the four setter win of
Puerto Rico over Mexico 27-25, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-16.
Mexico woke up in the third set. However the Puerto Ricans
showed a more solid attitude and performance. Maurice Torres
finished with 22 points and Mannix Roman scored 12. Samuel
Córdova was the top scorer for Mexico, with 13.
Carlos Guerra scored 9, while Pedro Rangel and Tomas Aguilera
finished with 8 apiece. Argentina will match Cuba, while Puerto
Rico will match USA, and Dominican Republic will open the action
by playing against Canada on Friday for seventh and eighth

Cuba clinches a berth in the semis
after beating Venezuela
TIJUANA, México, August 14, 2014.- Cuba beat
Venezuela and advanced to the semifinals after a five setter
victory (23-25, 25-20, 25-26, 29-31, 15-6).
Javier Jimenez Scull, Rolando Cepeda and Osmani
Uriarte, finished as top scorers for Cuba, as well as David Fiel
and Isbel Mesa. Jiménez tallied 20 points, while Cepeda closed
with 18. Fiel registered 15 and I Mesa 11.
For Venezuela, Kervin Pinerua leaded the attack
with 23 points and also served four aces. Jesus Chourio closed
12 and a couple of aces, while Hector Salerno closed with 11.

Dominican Republic earns first triumph at Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, México, August 14, 2014.- Dominican Republic
earned its first victory at IX Men’s Pan Am Cup after
beating Colombia in four sets 25-21, 27-25, 25-20 and 25-21.
Jose Cáceres was the best scorer with 26 points, while
Germán Recio finished with 16. Dominican captain Wilfrido
Hernández Encarnación scored 11. On the Colombian side,
Alexander Moreno registered 18 points, while Sergio Gaitán
tallied 14, and Andrés Piza 11. “It was a very even game,
and it could turn on any side. We had some point errors in
the sets we lost after scoring 20,” said Colombia’s coach
Martin Moine.

USA gets in to the Semis at IX Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA,
Mexico, August 13 2014 - The United states advanced to
semifinals at IX Men’s Pan Am Cup after beating host Mexico in
straight sets (31-29, 25-23 and 25-23).
Taylor Crabb was the leader of American offense with a total of
17 points, followed by Taylor Averill with 14, while captain
Zachary La Cavera finished with 13.
Mexico could not achieve the temporary win in the first set
after missing some key points that at least could force a four
sets match. Daniel Vargas finished as top scorer with 15 points
for the host team, while Carlos Guerra closed with 10 units and

Argentina edges Canada in five sets and goes on top of Pool C
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 13 2014 - In a long five setter battle,
Argentina edged Canada 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 23-25 y 19-17 at IX
Men’s Pan American Cup.
The team coached by Hernan Ferraro finished atop of Pool C and
was waiting for a rival on the second round. Pablo Koukartsev
was the leader on the Argentinean side with 19 points, followed
by Rodrigo Villalba with 18 and Facundo Imhoff with 15, while
Gonzalo Quiroga scored 10.
For Canada Dallas Soonias closed with 27 puntos, Toontje Van
Lankvett with 16, Graham Vigrass with 13 and Jason DeRocco with

Cuba closes Pool Round with a 2-0 record at IX Men’s Pan
American Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 13, 2014 –Cuba qualified to the second
round at IX Men’s Pan American Cup after a three setter victory
over Dominican Republic by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23.
The Cuban team is now 2-0 and finished atop in Pool B.The third
set was very tight after the Dominicans tried to get back with a
good solid performance by José Cáceres and Elvis Contreras.
Caceres finished with 20 points to be the top scorer of the
match, while Contreras closed with 9. On te Cuban side, captain
Rolando Cepeda closed with 16 points, followed by Osmany Uriarte,
with 12 and Javier Jiménez Scull with 10.

USA clinches first win at Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 12, 2014.- Americans clinched their
first victory by beating Colombia in a three setter match
(25-18, 25-23, 25-15) with captain Zachary LaCavera as their top
scorer with 15 points in the third match of Day 2 in Pool A.
Crabb Taylor and Averill Taylor also contributed with 9 points
apiece for United States.Alexander Moreno was the best scorer
for Colombia with 11 tallies. Colombia gave 28 points by
mistakes, despite a very good second set that finished 23-25.

Argentina wins over Venezuela in the highest scoring set in
history of Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 12, 2014 – Argentina and Venezuela
established a new combined points’ record in a set at Men’s
Pan American Cup, after scoring a total of 68 units in the
second one. The
victory was for the Argentinean team in straight sets
(25-20, 35-33, and 25-23). The previous mark was of 64
combined points, when Puerto Rico defeated Mexico 33-31
(first set) on June 16 2009 during the Preliminary Round of
the Fourth Edition of the Pan American Cup, celebrated in
Chiapas, Mexico. Pablo

of 15 points, while Rodrigo Villalba and Cristian Poglajen

Cruz, Torres and Sierra contribute to first Puerto Rican victory
at Pan Am Cup

Rest day was a hard-working one for Mexico
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 12, 2014 – Mexican Coach Sergio
Hernandez made sure his players didn’t stay on cloud nine
following their straight-set victory over Colombia in the first
outing of the home side in the Men’s Pan American Cup. It was a rest day for Mexico on Tuesday in the Men’s Pan
American Cup but the players were not resting on the laurels
achieved the previous night and were back in the gym to continue
working under the leadership of Hernandez and his staff. The Mexican squad was the first one in the training sessions
scheduled on Tuesday at the Multi-Sport Complex at the Baja
California High Performance, the official competition venue for
the nine-team competition.

Mexico make its debut in straight sets win over Colombia
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 11, 2014 — México came from behind in
the thir set to win 25-20, 25-20 and 26-24 against Colombia.
Daniel Vargas was the top scorer for Mexico with a total of 13
points, while Carlos Guerra, Samuel Cordova and Tomas Aguilera
finished with 10 apiece.
Mexico got into the High Performance Court with two of its
legendary international players Carlos Guerra and Gustavo Meyer.

the notes of Mexican Music, the IX Men’s Pan Am Cup was
officially inaugurated at the Baja California High Performance
Center.
Competition Director and Baja California Sports and Physical
Culture Director, Saul Castro Verdugo made the oficial opening
declaration while Norceca President and FIVB First Executive
Vice President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz addressed a message to
fans and special guests.

Cuba beat Puerto Rico in a five setter Caribbean battle
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 11 2014 – Cuba beat Puerto Rico in a
long epic battle of the Caribbean that was decided in five sets
with a victory for the Cuban squad 18-25, 26-24, 25-20, 21-25
and 15-12.
Maurice Torres was the scoring leader for Puerto Rico, with 24
points, included 2 aces, while Hector Soto closed with 11. On
the Cuban side, captain Rolando Cepeda finished with 22 points,
two of them by service and Javier Jimenez Scull closed with 17.
“We served very well, kept pressure and put them in trouble.
However we couldn’t defend and couldn’t block, so that’s why we
lost the match”, Soto said.
“It was our first match. We made many mistakes and lost a lot of
of concentration in the first set and that’s why we finished
3-2.

Venezuela opens with a victory over Canada in Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 11, 2014 – Venezuela defeated Canada 3-1
(25-20, 25-17,21-25, 30-28) in the opening match of the IX Men’s
Pan American Cup at the Baja California High Performance Center.
Venezuela surprised with a good defensive blocking strategy that
allowed them to score in second chances and they dominated the
second set. Kervin Pinerua scored 28 points for Venezuela,
followed by Freddy Cedeno with 15, while Jesus Chourio finished
with 12. On the Canadian side, Jason De Rocco and Dallas Soonias
scored 17 apiece.

High Expectations for IX Men’s Pan Am Cup
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 10, 2014.- Head coaches of the
competing teams at IX Men's Pan Am Cup remarked the high
expectations as they wait for the beginning of the

Matches start on Monday. Previously during last weekend the

Men’s Pan American Cup announced in Tijuana
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 5, 2014 - The IX Men’s Pan American
Cup was officially announced in a press conference held at
the Baja California High Performance Center on Tuesday. A
total of nine teams will participates in the tournament
which is also a qualifier to the 2015 FIVB World League.
Countries confirmed are Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Cuba,
Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, The United States of

Organizers give final touches to Men’s Pan Am Cup in Tijuana
TIJUANA, Mexico, July 3, 2014 - The Local Organizing Committee
of the IX Men’s Pan American Cup held a coordination meeting to
set the tournament details.
The Cup will be played from August 9 to 17 at the Baja
California High Performance Center in Tijuana.
The Baja California Sports and Physical Culture Institute will
be in charge of the event that is getting closer to celebrate
its first decade of life after being born in this region of
Mexico.
Former Olympic Player and High Performance Director of the Baja
California Institute, Cesar Osuna Brambila presented the
proposals.
