Carli Lloyd of USA is the MVP at Pan Am Games
TORONTO,
Canada, July 25 2015 - Carli Lloyd of the United States was
recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the Volleyball
Tournament at the Pan Am Games. Lloyd was also named Best
Setter of the competition after recording a 9.36 average and
contributed with the victory of her national team against
Brazil to win the gold medal. “This is just a representation
of team USA. This is a group effort. We played some really
good volleyball this tournament and I’m so thankful from
this team and the staff that we had, the support that we
had,” she said.

USA women are the Pan Am Games Champions
TORONTO, Canada, July 25, 2015 – United States conquered the
gold medal at the women’s volleyball tournament of the Pan
American Games defeating Brazil in straight sets 3-0 (25-22,
25-21, 28-26) in the last match of the competition played in
front of a big crowd at Toronto Exhibition Center on Saturday
night. The American side played neat volleyball to overcome the
challenge represented by the defending champions Brazil who
battled relentless until the last point of the contest. It is
the second gold medal for the United States women in the history
of the Pan American Games.

Dominican Republic gets women’s bronze medal
TORONTO, Canada, July 25, 2015 – The Dominican Republic defeated
Puerto Rico 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21) to win the bronze
medal at the women’s volleyball of the Pan American Games at
Toronto Exhibition Center on Saturday.
It is the second medal in the Pan American Games volleyball
history for the women’s Dominican team who won the gold at home
in Santo Domingo in 2003.
Veterans Annerys Vargas and Prisilla Rivera, who were members of
the gold medal team twelve years ago, were among the most
productive offensive players in the match with 13 and 10 points,
respectively.

USA defeats Dominican Republic in semifinals
TORONTO, Canada, July 23, 2015 – United States defeated the
Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22) to
advance to the gold medal match against defending champions
Brazil at the women’s volleyball tournament of the Pan
American Games on Thursday. The winners outscored their
opponents 52-45 in spikes as well as in blocking 14-7. The
Dominicans held a slight margin in aces 5-4 and made 27
errors to 25 by the Americans. Nicole Fawcett and Krista
Vansant were the leading scorers for USA with 16 and 15
points.

Brazil makes spectacular trip to the gold medal match
TORONTO, Canada July 23, 2015 – Defending champions Brazil
made a spectacular comeback to defeat Puerto Rico in
five-sets 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-19, 15-11) and
progressing to the gold medal match at the women’s
tournament of the Pan American Games at Toronto Exhibition
Center on Thursday. Not only the Brazilian were able to
erase the 0-2 deficit but trailed 2-6 in the tie-breaker
before winning the next six points to never look back.
Fernanda Rodrigues had 28 points.

Melissa Vargas carries Cuba to fifth place
TORONTO, Canada, July 23, 2015 – Melissa Vargas carried Cuba to
a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21) victory over Argentina in the
match for fifth place at the women’s volleyball tournament of
the Pan American Games held at Toronto Exhibition Center on
Thursday. Vargas had a tournament-high 32 points, including four
aces and one block, to lead the winning attack. She got support
from Regla Gracia who registered 14 points, while Alena Rojas,
Daymara Lescay and Sulian Matienzo each contributed 9 points in
the victory. Emilce Sosa and Leticia Boscacci finished with 17
and 15 points.

Leyva scores 25 as Peru finished seventh
TORONTO, Canada, July 23, 2015 – Angela Leyva recorded a
tournament-high 25 points to lead Peru to a five-set 3-2
(22-25, 26-24, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13) victory over host Canada
in the match for the seventh position at the women’s
volleyball tournament of the 2015 Pan American Games in
Toronto. The 18-year-old Peruvian received considerable
offensive support from teammates Maguilaura Frias and Gina
Lopez who finished with 18 and 11 points, respectively.
Tabitha Lopez was the best offensive Canadian with 18
points, followed by Kyla Richey with 15.

USA advance to a semifinal clash with Dominican Republic
TORONTO, Canada, July 22, 2015 – United States defeated Cuba
3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18) advancing to a semifinal
match against the Dominican Republic at the women’s
volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games Toronto
2015. While Cuba outdistanced United States in the blocking
category 16-7, the Americans had the upper hand in attacks
58-41 and made 20 errors, seven less than Cuba. Krista
Vansant topped USA with 16 points followed by Nicole Fawcett
and Kristin Hildebrand.

Historic victory for Puerto Rico at Pan Am Games
TORONTO, Canada, July 22, 2015 – Puerto Rico registered a
nail-biting victory in five sets 3-2 (25-21, 25-27, 25-10,
11-25, 15-13) over Argentina to move to the semifinal round of
the women’s volleyball tournament at the Pan American Games on
Wednesday.
The rival of Puerto Rico could be either Brazil or Dominican
Republic, depending on the result of the other quarterfinal
match between Cuba and United States. In case of a victory of
the United States the opponent would be Brazil or Dominican
Republic if Cuba is the winner of the contest.
Karina Ocasio had a tournament-high 24 points, including five
blocks, to lead the Puerto Rican offense.

Brazil wins terrific duel with USA
TORONTO, Canada, July 20, 2015 – Brazil finished with the
upper hand in a terrific five-set duel with the United
States to decide Pool B first place at the women’s
volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games winning 3-2
(22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, 15-11) at Toronto Exhibition
Center on Monday night. The victory earned the defending
champions Brazilians a 3-0 win-loss record and a direct
ticket to the semifinals while the USA team had to settle
for a berth in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 mark.

Puerto Rico books ticket to next round
TORONTO, Canada, July 20, 2015 – Puerto Rico outclassed Peru
in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-23) to grab third
place in Pool B at the women’s volleyball tournament of the
Pan American Games at Toronto Exhibition Center on Monday.
The Puerto Ricans executed 7 aces from the service line
against only 2 by the Peruvians while both teams scored with
8 blocks. The losers made 26 unforced errors, ten more than
the winners. Karina Ocasio and Stefanie Enright were the two
Puerto Ricans with double figures in the charts with 14 and
10 points, respectively.

Cuba jumps to third, Dominicans win Pool A
TORONTO, Canada, July 20, 2015 – Cuba leapfrogged Canada for
third place in Pool A of the women’s volleyball at the Pan
American Games by defeating the Dominican Republic 3-1
(25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20) at Toronto Exhibition Center on
Monday. Cuba and Canada both finished with 1-2 win-loss
record and 5 points, but Cuba concluded with a better
point-ratio with .957 to .873. The Dominican side
secured the first place in the pool and a direct ticket to
the semifinal round with a better point-ratio than Argentina
as both teams concluded at 2-1 and 10 points.

Argentina finishes with 2-1 mark in Pool A
TORONTO, Canada, July 20, 2015 – Argentina overcame Canada
in four sets 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21) on Monday to
finish Pool A at the women’s volleyball tournament of the
Pan American Games with a 2-1 win-loss mark, good at least
for a second place. Argentinean Paola Nizetich led all the
players in the match with 19 points, getting plenty support
from Leticia Boscacci with 15 points and Emilce Sosa and
Julieta Lazcano each with 12. Yael Castiglione and Josefina
Fernandez contributed 8 and 7 points in the win. Canadian
Kyla Richey finished with 18 points.

USA control Puerto Rico to stay unbeaten
TORONTO, Canada, July 18, 2015 – United States beat Puerto Rico
3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) to maintain their spotless record in
Pool B of the women’s volleyball tournament at the Pan American
Games in Toronto.
The Americans, who have yet to lose a set after two days of
actions, were threatened in the second set when the Puerto
Ricans were ahead 22-21 but won the next four points with
Kristin Hildebrand capping the surge with her third ace of the
match. Krista Vansant topped the balanced attack of the winners
with 12 points, followed by Hildebrand and Nicole Fawcett.

Canada in love with Tabitha
TORONTO, Canada, July 18, 2015 – Tabitha Love scored 22
points and Lucille Charuk contributed 6 blocks to propel
Canada to a 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22) victory over
Cuba in day two at the women’s volleyball tournament of the
Pan American Games at Toronto Exhibition Center on Saturday.
Love was one of three Canadians who reached double digits in
the scores with Charuk finishing second with 18 and Kyla
Richey contributing 14 points in the victory. Sulian
Matienzo was the best scorer for Cuba with 14 points,
followed by Alena Rojas and Daymara Lescay each with 10
points.

Argentina 3-1 (22-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-18) to claim its second
victory in as many outings at the women’s volleyball tournament
of the Pan American Games at Toronto Exhibition Center on
Saturday. After losing the first set, the Dominicans caught
rhythm and dominated in the second and fourth set to seal the
win. Gina Mambru and Yonkaira Peña shared the lead in the
scoring department of the Dominican Republic with 16 points
apiece.

recovered from losing a close first set to defeat Peru 3-1
(25-27, 25-5, 25-17, 25-16) in the second day of pool round

second victory for Brazil who had to battle for five sets
with Puerto Rico to claim the victory in opening day. Peru

TORONTO, Canada, July 16, 2015 – Dominican Republic rolled
past hosts Canada in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15)
in Pool A of the women’s volleyball tournament at the Pan
American Games at Exhibition Centre of Toronto on Thursday.
Gina Mambru led Dominican Republic with 14 points, including
four aces, while Yonkaira Peña added 12 and Brayelin
Martínez finished with 8. Dana Cranston was the best scorer
for Canada with nine points. The Canadians gave away 30
points via unforced errors to only 14 by the Dominican side.

Argentina defeats an erratic Cuba
TORONTO, Canada, July 16, 2015 – Argentina defeated Cuba 3-0
(25-23, 26-24, 25-19) in a Pool AS match of the women’s
volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games at Exhibition
Centre on Thursday.
The Argentineans made only 14 unforced errors compared to 31 by
the young Cuban squad and held the advantage in blocks 10-5.
Josefina Fernandez was the top scorer for Argentina with 10
points followed by Lucia Fresco with nine tallies. Emilce Sosa
and Julieta Lazcano each contributed 7 points in the victory.
Cuba’s Melissa Vargas topped all the scorers in the match
with 18 points but it was not enough.

Preliminary Inspections for Indoor Volleyball take part at Pan Am Games
TORONTO, Canada, July 13 2015 - The first inspections for indoor
volleyball have taken part prior to the beginning of the
competition at the XVII Pan American Games.
FIVB First Executive Vice President and Pan American Volleyball
Union President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz praised the work done by
the members of the Toronto 2015 Organizing Committee.
“We have to applaud and appreciate the work they have done,”
