Argentina’s Conte is the MVP of Men’s Volleybal at Pan Am Games
TORONTO, Canada, July 26 2015 - Facundo Conte of Argentina was
named the Most Valuable Player of the volleyball tournament at
the XVII Pan American Games.
Conte contributed to his team in the victory against Brazil in a
Classic South American Battle. The Argentineans won in five sets
25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 25-23 and 15-8.
Conte registered 23 points in the final, only five less than
Brazil’s Renan Buiatti, who scored 28 and was recognized
as Best Opposite Player of the competition.

Argentina men’s take the gold medal at Pan Am Games
TORONTO, Canada, July 26, 2015 – Argentina won the men’s
volleyball gold medal at the Toronto Pan American Games with a
terrific comeback to outduel Brazil 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 19-25,
25-23, 15-8) in front of a full house at Exhibition Center on
Sunday afternoon. Trailing by four points in the latter stages
of the fourth set, the Argentinean side steadily climbed the
ladder to tie the score with resilient field and net defense. At
23-all they forced the tie-breaker with the ace by Martin Ramos.

Canada takes men’s bronze medal
TORONTO, Canada, July 26, 2015 – Hosts Canada defeated Puerto
Rico 3-1 (25-11, 25-12, 23-25, 25-18) in the match for the
bronze medal at the men’s volleyball tournament of the Pan
American Games on Sunday morning at Toronto Exhibition Center.
Gavin Schmitt was unstoppable with 25 points to lead the way for
the home side with four aces and two blocks in his tally. John
Gordon Perrin and Rudy Verhoeff contributed 14 and 13 points,
respectively, in the victory while Graham Vigrass chipped in
with nine points.

Double champions Brazil to defend Pan American crown
TORONTO, Canada, July 24, 2015 – Brazil demolished Puerto
Rico in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) in just 1
hour and 19 minutes advancing to the title match at the
men’s volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games to be
played next Sunday at Toronto Exhibition Center. It will be
a South American classic battle for the gold as Argentina
had booked earlier its spot in the deciding contest. It was
a complete dominance from start to finish by the two-time
defending champions who outscored.

Argentina jumps into the men’s gold medal match
TORONTO, Canada, July 25, 2015 – Argentina progressed to the
gold medal match at the men’s volleyball tournament of the
Pan American Games after defeating hosts Canada 3-1 (28-26,
20-25, 25-21, 25-23) in a semifinal match that lasted 2
hours and 9 minutes at Toronto Exhibition Center on Friday
night. In the title’s match on Sunday afternoon, Argentina
will play the winner of the match between Puerto Rico and
Brazil later on Friday. Facundo Conte and José Luis Gonzalez
finished.

Cuba takes fifth place in Pan American Games
TORONTO, Canada, July 24, 2015 – Cuba overcame United States 3-1
(28-30, 25-22, 25-14, 25-22) in the match for fifth place at the
men’s volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games at Toronto
Exhibition Center on Friday afternoon.
Rolando Cepeda was the top offensive weapon for Cuba with 24
points, including four blocks, followed by Javier Jimenez with
18 points and Livan Osoria who finished with 11 in the victory.
Zachary La Cavera had 22 points.

Mexico blanks Colombia for men’s seventh place
TORONTO, Canada, July 24, 2015 – Mexico brushed aside Colombia
in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-18) in the match for
seventh place at the men’s volleyball tournament of the Pan
American Games at Toronto Exhibition Center on Friday.
The two teams were winless in the preliminary pool play phase
finishing in fourth place.
Jorge Barajas was the only Mexican player who reached double
digits in the scores with 16 points. Tomas Aguilera and Daniel
Vargas each contributed 9 points in the victory.

Puerto Rico knocks out Cuba with sensational comeback
TORONTO, Canada, July 22, 2015 – Puerto Rico pulled an
astonishing come-from-behind victory over Cuba in five sets
3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-11) to reach the
semifinals of the men’s volleyball tournament at the Pan
American Games on Wednesday night. Despite losing the
services of big offensive weapon Steven Morales, who
suffered a broken ankle halfway the third set.

Argentina to play Canada in semifinals
TORONTO, Canada, July 22, 2015 – Argentina rolled on top of
United States in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-15) in a
quarterfinals match of the men’s volleyball tournament at
Toronto Pan American Games on Wednesday. The victory moved
Argentina to a semifinal match against hosts Canada on Friday at
Exhibition Center with the winner of the other quarterfinal
between Puerto Rico and Cuba slated to meet Brazil. It was a
complete dominance by the Argentinean side from start to finish
displaying an effective offense especially from their middle men
Pablo Crer.

Cuba blanks Colombia
TORONTO, Canada, July 21, 2015 – Cuba roared past Venezuela
to claim a straight-set 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-18) in a match
of Pool A at the men’s volleyball tournament of the Pan
American Games Toronto 2015 at Exhibition Center on Tuesday
night. Despite the victory, Cuba remained in third place of
the pool behind Argentina due to a lower point-ratio of
1.000 compared to 1.185 of the South Americans. Most of the
Cuban players saw action in the match that lasted 70 minutes
with Livan Osoria finishing as the top scorer with 11
points.

Canada to semis with sensational comeback

comeback from a 0-2 deficit to defeat United States 3-2 (19-25,

the men’s volleyball tournament at the Pan American Games
Toronto 2015 on Tuesday at Exhibition Centre. United States held
the favorable margin in attacks 56-54.

TORONTO, Canada, July 21, 2015 – Puerto Rico beat Mexico 3-0
(25-23, 25-14, 25-20) to finish with a 2-1 win-loss record
and 10 points in Pool B of the men’s volleyball tournament
at the Pan American Games taking place at Toronto Exhibition
Center. Pablo Guzman and Ezequiel Cruz shared the scoring
lead for Puerto Rico each with 12 points, seconded by
veteran Hector Soto, who contributed 9 points. Jorge Barajas
was the best for Mexico with just 9 points, as his team
finished the preliminary round winless in three outings.

Brazil claims top place in men’s
Pool A
TORONTO, Canada, July 21, 2015 – Brazil defeated Argentina
in straight sets 3-0 (29-27, 25-21, 25-22) earning a direct
ticket to the semifinals in the men’s tournament of the Pan
American Games at Toronto Exhibition Center on Tuesday. The
3-0 victory boosted Brazil to an insurmountable 12 points in
Pool A to go with their 2-1 win-loss record. Argentina
totaled 9 points also with a 2-1 mark good for second place.
Renan Buiatti led Brazil with 17 points, followed by Douglas
Souza and Mauricio Silva who contributed 13 and 12 points in
the victory.

USA wakes up on time to beat Mexico
TORONTO, Canada, July 19, 2015 – United States recovered
from losing the first set and a serious threat in the second
and went on to defeat Mexico 3-1 (20-25, 27-25, 25-16,
25-17) in the last match of day two at the men’s volleyball
tournament of the Pan American Games at Exhibition Center in
Toronto. It was the first victory for the USA team that lost
to Puerto Rico in the opening day. Mexico is winless in two
outings. The Americans won the match despite committing 40
unforced errors to 27 by the Mexicans. They, however,
dominated in blocks (11-2), service winners (9-3) and
attacks (50-38).

Argentina depends on subs to beat Colombia
TORONTO, Canada, July 19, 2015 – Argentina relied mostly on
bench players to beat Colombia in straight-sets 3-0 (25-14,
25-16, 25-21) in the second day of the men’s volleyball
tournament at the Pan American Games in Toronto at
Exhibition Center. It was the second victory for the South
American team coached by Julio Velasco and the second defeat
for the Colombian side coached by Cuban Eliseo Ramos.
Argentina dominated the one-sided contest with advantages in
blocks (9-1), aces (6-2) and attacks (41-30). Martin Ramos
led the Argentinean attack with 17 points, including two
blocks and one ace, while Ezequiel Palacios and Maximiliano
Gauna contributed 12 and 10 points.

Canada outplays Puerto Rico, improves to 2-0
TORONTO, Canada, July 19, 2015 – Hosts Canada defeated
Puerto Rico 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20) in the second
day of the men’s volleyball tournament at the Pan American
Games on Sunday at Exhibition Center of Toronto. It was the
second victory in as many matches for the home side in Pool
B of the competition after downing Mexico in day one. Puerto
Rico evened their win-loss mark at 1-1. Gavin Schmitt’s 24
points, including three aces, topped the scoring of Canada,
while John Gordon Perrin contributed 15 points.

Jimenez and Cepeda lead Cuba to win over Brazil
TORONTO, Canada July 19, 2015 – Javier Jimenez and Rolando
Cepeda scored 26 and 21 points, respectively, to send Cuba to a
thrilling five-set 3-2 (25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11)
victory over Brazil in Pool A of the men’s volleyball tournament
at the Pan American Games in Toronto.
The full house at Exhibition Center, on the edge of their seats
for most of the match, watched Cuba scoring a tournament-high 17
blocks against the taller Brazilians with Cepeda and Livan
Osoria leading the way with four blocks apiece.
Douglas Souza finished with 23 points for Brazil, followed by
Renan Buiatti.

in opening day of the men’s volleyball tournament at the Pan
American Games by defeating United States 3-1 (25-23, 24-26,
25-20, 28-26) at Exhibition Centre on Friday. The more
experienced Puerto Ricans overcame the hard-hitting
Americans and took advantage of 42 unforced errors committed
by the defeated side compared to their own 27 faults. Steven
Morales topped the scoring of Puerto Rico with 17 while
receiving respectable.

Brazil began their campaign for a third crown in a row in men’s

Preliminary Inspections for Indoor Volleyball take part at Pan Am Games
TORONTO, Canada, July 13 2015 - The first inspections for indoor
volleyball have taken part prior to the beginning of the
competition at the XVII Pan American Games.
FIVB First Executive Vice President and Pan American Volleyball
Union President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz praised the work done by
the members of the Toronto 2015 Organizing Committee.
“We have to applaud and appreciate the work they have done,”
said Marte Hoffiz, who also directed the first Control Committee
Meeting.
