the Most Valuable Player - MVP of the Women’s

Mexico advances Women´s U23 Pan American title
match for the first time
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, August 14, 2021. -
Mexico swept Suriname 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-15)
in semifinals to advance for the first time the
title match of the Women’s U23 Pan American Cup.
Mexican Atenas Gutiérrez started the second set
from the service line and left it with a 14-1
score, including four aces; she led all scorers
with 12 points. Her teammate Marian Aylin Ovalle
collected 10 points on 8 kills and two blocks.
Suriname’s Margaret Ketura was her team’s best
scorer with 10 points.

New record for highest scoring set
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, August 13, 2021 - Puerto
Rico and Costa Rica set a new record for the
highest scoring set in the history of the U-23
Women's Volleyball Pan American Cup last
Thursday. The teams engaged in a first-set
battle in which Puerto Rico prevailed 34-32,
erasing the previous record of 29-27 established
when Peru beat Argentina.

Mexican Rivera threatened record of aces

Mexican setter Karen Rivera fell one ace short
of tying the mark for a single match in the
history of the U-23 Women's Volleyball Pan
American Cup on Friday. Rivera landed 8 aces for
all her points in Mexico's 3-0 victory over
Puerto Rico to close the preliminary phase of
the qualifying tournament for the Pan American
Youth Games to be held in Cali, Colombia from
November 25 to December 5 of this year.

Mexico tops pool B defeating Puerto Rico
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, August 13, 2021. - Host
Mexico topped pool B defeating Puerto Rico 3-0
(25-10, 25-15) at the Women’s U23 Pan American
Cup on Friday night at the Olympic Gymnasium of
Aguascalientes.
Once again Coach Luis Alberto Leon had the
opportunity to use his entire roster in a match
dominated by Mexico. The home team finishes the
preliminary round with 3-0 record and will meet
Suriname in semifinals, while Puerto Rico (1-2)
plays against defending champion Dominican
Republic.

Costa Rica beats Guatemala and will play for
fifth place
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, August 13, 2021. – Costa
Rica won the Central American clash to Guatemala
3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) and will play for
fifth place at the Women’s U23 Pan American Cup
being held at the Olympic Gymnasium of
Aguascalientes. After yesterday’s impressive
display from Costa Rica against Puerto Rico,
today’s performance lacked their usual
explosion. Costa Rica finishes third place in
pool B with 1-2 record to play for fifth place
on Sunday; Guatemala with 0-3 record plays for
placement against Trinidad and Tobago on
Saturday. We could a Central American clash
again if Guatemala defeats Trinidad and Tobago.

Suriname swept Trinidad and Tobago (25-17,
25-18, 26-24) in their first outing at the
Women’s U23 Pan American Cup, a qualifier event
to the Junior Pan American Games to be held in
Cali on November 25 to December 5.
With the victory Suriname (1-0) is set to face
Dominican Republic (1-0) on Friday to decide
first place of pool A, both teams move into
semifinals and qualify to the Cali Junior Pan
American Games. Trinidad and Tobago concludes
pool-play with 0-2 record.

Women’s U23 Pan American Cup that qualifies four teams to the
Junior Pan American Games of Cali, defeating Costa Rica 3-0
(25-11, 25-16, 25-18) at the Olympic Gymnasium in Aguascalientes.
Mexico opened defeating Costa Rica 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-18).
Mexico´s well directed serves neutralized Costa Rica who led in
