Dominican Brayelin Martinez elected the MVP of the Women’s U-23
Pan-Am Cup
ICA, Peru, September 13, 2014. - Dominican Republic’s captain
Brayelin Martinez was elected the Most Valuable Player of the
second edition of the Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup that
concluded this Saturday at Jose Oliva Razzeto Coliseum in the
City of Ica.
Towering outside hitter Brayelin Martinez, effectiveness was
crucial for Dominican Republic’s second consecutive title who
was also recognized with the awards for Best Scorer and Best
Spiker of the event. She was joined by sister Jineiry Martinez
as Best Blocker.
Colombia also received several individual awards, captain Maria
Marin was the Best Setter, while Camila Gomez received three
awards: Best Libero, Best Receiver and Best Digger.

Dominican Republic confirms Women’s U-23 Pan Am Title
ICA, Peru, September 13, 2014. - Dominican Republic wins their
second consecutive U-23 Women’s Pan American Title beating
Colombia 3-1 (24-26, 27-25, 25-23, 25-11) in the Gold Medal
match of the tournaments’ second edition at Jose Oliva Razzeto
Coliseum in the City of Ica.
The match was well disputed in the first three sets a strong
performance from both sides, longer rallies, strong kills and
similar errors; it was up to the fourth period when the
champions’ blocking crushed Colombia’s offensive line over the
net.

Melissa Vargas leads Cuba to claim the Pan-Am U-23 Bronze Medal
ICA, Peru, September 13, 2014. – Cuba claimed the Bronze Medal
prevailing over hosts Peru 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 19-25, 25-17) with
impressive 31 points from young Melissa Vargas in the conclusion
of the II Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup at Jose Oliva Razzeto
Coliseum. Young Melissa Vargas scored a tournament-high of 31 points,
including 24 kills, 3 blocks and 4 aces to stop the home team’s
efforts; Peru was left out of options while Cuba dominated with
stronger kills to finish in third place. Cuba was challenged by
Peru on several occasions; they even lost the fourth period with
considerable advantage. Cuba showed superiority with a
50-38 margin.

Mexico finishes fifth with comeback over Argentina
CHINCHA, Peru, September 13, 2014. - Mexico outclassed Argentina
3-2 (25-20, 16-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13) to finish in fifth place
at the II Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup at Mauro Mina Coliseum. Mexico began on top and after losing two sets they recovered to
tie the match and finishing with a thrilling tie-break rematch
as they lost to Argentina in the preliminary round in straight

Costa Rica’s only win for seventh place over Trinidad and Tobago
CHINCHA, Peru, September 13, 2014.- Costa Rica finished in
seventh place defeating Trinidad and Tobago 3-1 (19-25, 25-22,
25-21, 25-17), their only victory at the II Women’s U-23
Pan-American Cup at Mauro Mina Coliseum. The pale match
showed both teams with a similar performance, both scored 43
points via attacks, Trinidad and Tobago was better in
blocking 7-6 and in serves 15-10.

Colombia to play Women’s U-23 Pan-AM Gold Medal Match
ICA, Peru, September 12, 2014. - Colombia defeated hosts Peru
by 3-1 (28-26, 24-26, 25-21, 25-22) and will play against
defending champions Dominican Republic for the II Women’s U-23
Pan-American Gold at Jose Oliva Razzeto Coliseum in the City of
Ica.
Colombia and Peru engaged in a tough duel with strong
excitements as the scores remain very close. The home team kept
the twenty-five hundred spectators hopes always alive but in the
end, Colombia’s defensive line never broke.

México dominated Costa Rica and will play for fifth against
Argentina
CHINCHA, Peru, September 12, 2014. - Mexico had no complications
to beat Costa Rica in straight sets (25-12, 25-18, 25-18) and
will play for fifth place against Argentina in the conclusion of
the II Women’s U-23 Pan American Cup at Mauro Mina Coliseum.
Actions concluded in 67 minutes, in which Mexican Alejandra
Segura and Andrea Rangel scored 9 tallies apiece, while Mijal
Hines (6) was their opponent’s top scorer.
Mexico was superior in every category, (34-18) in attacks, (7-3)
in blocking and (12-2) in service points, both teams committed
numerous unforced errors (24-22).

Argentina won to Trinidad and Tobago to play for fifth place
CHINCHA, Peru, September 12, 2014.- Argentina swept Trinidad and
Tobago by 25-11, 25-14, 25-18 to play for the fifth place of the
II Women’s U-23 Pan American Cup in the city of Chincha at Mauro
Mina Coliseum. The South American squad finished in 64 minutes,
where Caribbean outside hitter Channon Thompson topped all
scorers with a total of 14 tallies, the one with double-figures.
The winners were led by middle blocker Micela Tassara (9),
followed by setter Priscila Bosio and opposite hitter Micaela
Fabiani with seven units apiece, where Argentina was superior in
attacks (35-15) and aces (10-2).

Dominicans to defend Pan-Am title with thrilling comeback over
Cuba

thrilling comeback over Cuba (18-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-12)
at the II Women’s U-23 Pan American Cup first semifinal will
defend their title at Jose Oliva Razzeto Coliseum.
Dominican Republic dismantled Cuba’s offensive line keeping the
scores tight from the second set further as Cuba jumped to an
early lead with defending champions struggling missing to
unforced errors and missing serves. Dominicans won the match
coming from behind gaining confidence.

Anti-Doping Program in active plan at U23 Cup
ICA, Peru, September 12, 2014 – NORCECA Confederation continues
to follow up the anti-doping educational program that started
two years ago addressed to players and medical staff of teams
taking part in the different regional volleyball competitions.
The program was implemented by the NORCECA Medical Commission
under the presidency of Dr Victor Figueroa.

Cuba reaches semifinals winning intense duel with Dominican
Republic

Republic 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-19) to top Pool B unbeaten and
reaching the semifinals of the II Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup. In the closing preliminary round at Mauro Mina Coliseum, both
Caribbean teams engaged in an intense battle in which the Cubans
benefited, mostly in the first two sets when their opponents
failed numerous serves, while Juan Carlos Gala’s pupils were
better in that category (5-2) and grew in their counterattacks.

Tobago in straight sets 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 in their last match
in Pool A at the II Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup at the Jose
Oliva Razzeto Coliseum in the city of Ica. Mexico struggled more than necessary in the early stage of the
match to defeat Trinidad and Tobago who blocked their offensive
line; but they gained confidence as the match progressed and
managed the win with a faster rhythm.

preliminary round with victory over Costa Rica 3-0 (25-23,
25-21, 25-18), their second win in Group B at the II Women’s

The Central American surprised in the two first sets with strong
resistance, but their opponents reacted at the end of each set
without seizing their initiative mostly in the third set where
they showed their real superiority, with advantage in kills

Angela Leyva leads Peru to beat Mexico in thrilling five-setter
ICA, Peru, September 8, 2014. - Captain Angela Leyva led Peru
to beat Mexico in five thrilling sets 22-25, 25-23, 23-25,
25-23, 18-16 at the II Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup Jose Oliva
Razzeto Coliseum in the City of Ica.
It was an exciting duel where Angela Leyva registered a
math-high of 26 points to keep Peru unbeaten in Pool A as Mexico
pushed strong to recover from yesterday’s loss to Argentina. The
home girls didn’t give up easily as Mexico subdued their efforts
blocking them from start to finish.
Peru topped Mexico in kills with 62-52 advantage, while Mexico
surpassed in the blocking (19-10) and service categories (7-5).
There was little difference in unforced errors, with Peru
committing a total of 34 and Mexico36.

Cuba defeats Costa Rica to lead Pool B unbeaten
CHINCHA, Peru, September 8, 2014. - Cuba prevailed over Costa
Rica without any complications 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-15) and
leads Pool B with two victories at the II Women’s U-23
Pan-American Cup at Coliseum Mario Mina, a recognized Peruvian
boxer.
The outstanding serves of the Caribbean’s were dominant, with 16
aces, 8 of them scored by left outside hitter Regla Garcia, top
scorer of the match with 15 points, followed by middle blocker
Yelennis Díaz (13) and opposite player Melissa Vargas (10),
while three bench players had the opportunity to contribute with
the winning cause, especially versatile Dayami Sanchez (5).
Mijal Hines (7) and Tania Carazo (6) were once again Costa
Rica’s top scorers.

Pool A at the II Women’s U-23 Pan American Cup taking place at

The South Americans showed a solid and structure display in
their second pool match, having no difficulties in beating an
inexperienced Trinidad and Tobago. Argentina improves their
win-loss record 2-0 while Trinidad and Tobago drops to 0-2.
Argentina showed their dominance with a huge 31-15 advantage in
kills, as well in service points by 14-2.

Dominicans cruised
past Costa Rica
CHINCHA, Perú, September 7, 2014.- Dominican Republic cruised by
Costa Rica in straight sets
(25-8, 25-13, 25-13) in the second and last match of Pool B at
the II Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup that began on Sunday at
Mauro Mina Coliseum in the city south of Lima.
As well as the cold season, the Caribbean team froze their
opponents with superiority in every aspect: in attacks (35-14),
blocking (9-2) and service (7-2) in a match that lasted 56
minutes.
The top scorer of the match was Brayelin Martinez (14), joined
by teammates Yonkaira Peña and Gaila Gonzalez, both with 11
tallies, while on their opponents side, Tania Carazo scored only
seven points.

ICA, Peru, September 7, 2014. - Argentina opens the Women’s
U-23 Pan-American Cup beating Mexico 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-18) at
the Jose Oliva Razzeto Colisium in host city of Ica.
The Pool A between Argentina and Mexico showed Argentina
starting with more confidence and winning the first set with a
comfortable lead. On the other hand, Mexico seemed off their

The battle for berths to Women’s U23 FIVB 2015 WCH begins

Eyes are set on Seomara Sainz
MEXICO CITY, Mexico, September 6 2014 - Just before departing to
Peru, Lizbeth Seomara Sainz looks forward for two important
international competitions.
One of them is the FIVB Women’s World Championship to be played
in Italy. The other one is the Women’s U23 Pan American Cup that
starts in Peru.
“Seo” - as She is known by her colleagues and friends - is only
18 years old, but has granted a special priviledge: to be part
of the Age Group and Senior National teams. This is her fourth

Olympic Medalists present Women’s U-23 Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, September 5, 2014. - Three Olympic medalists, hosts Natalia Malaga and Rosa Garcia, joined by Cuban Mireya Luis,

Eight teams to participated in second U23 Pan Am Cup
ICA, Peru, September 2, 2014 – The second edition of the U23
Women’s Pan American Cup will be played in the cities of Ica and
Chincha, Peru from September 7 to 13 with the participation of
eight teams representing NORCECA and South American
Confederations. The event is organized by the Pan American Volleyball Union
presided over by Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz in conjunction with the
Peruvian Volleyball Federation, presided over by Dr. Luis
Linares, and grants three tickets –two to NORCECA.
