United States defeats Dominican Republic to win NORCECA Gold
MORELIA, Mexico, October 2, 2015.- United States defeated
Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17) to win
the Gold Medal of the NORCECA Women’s Continental
Championship that concluded on Friday at Bicentenario
Auditorium of Morelia, Michoacan. United States wins their
third consecutive NORCECA title with Dominican Republic as
runner ups, for a total of eight titles, finishing a the
year with four major titles overall (World FIVB Grand Prix
Champions, Pan-American Champions, Pan American Cup, NORCECA
Champions). The U.S. National team held a 53-32 margin in
spikes and 6-1 in blocking over the Dominicans who did
better in serves 8-7.

Puerto Rico wins NORCECA
Bronze over Canada
MORELIA, Mexico, October 2, 2015.- Puerto Rico defeated
Canada 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17) to win the bronze
medal of the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship on
Friday at Bicentenario Auditorium of Morelia, Michoacan.
Puerto Rico outnumbered Canada in every skill; they held a
54-35 margin in kills, a 10-8 advantage in blocking and 6-1
in aces. Puerto Rico committed more errors than Canada
(37-28). Canada began tough on blocking and took the
lead winning the first set.

Cuba beats Mexico for fifth place
MORELIA, Mexico, October 2, 2015.- Cuba beat Mexico 3-1 (18-25,
25-15, 25-15, 25-19) to finish in fifth place at the NORCECA
Women’s Continental Championship at Bicentenario Auditorium of
Morelia, Michoacan.
Cuba quickly recovered from losing the first set with their
powerful offence, especially with enormous advantage in blocking
by 11-3 margin and 9-4 in aces to take control of Mexico who
held advantage in kills 46-38. Cuba scored on 35 Mexican errors.
Cuba’s top scorers were Outside Hitters Sulian Matienzo and
Jennifer Alvarez with 14 points apiece, and Opposite Heidy
Rodriguez with 13 points.

Trinidad and Tobago finish seventh place
MORELIA, Mexico, October 2, 2015.- Trinidad and Tobago
finished seventh place at the NORCECA Continental
Championship prevailing over Costa Rica 3-0 (25-19, 26-24,
26-24) at Bicentenario Auditorium of Morelia, Michoacan.
Trinidad and Tobago held a huge advantage in spikes 38-16, a
7-5 margin in serves and 11-10.

United States to defend NORCECA Women’s title
MORELIA, Mexico, October 1, 2015.- United States beat Puerto
Rico 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-17) at the NORCECA Women’s
Continental Championship semifinal to defend their title
against Dominican Republic at Bicentenario Auditorium of
Morelia, Michoacan. Both teams had errors in blocking and
serving in set one; strong kills on both sides kept the
score close and tied on several occasions, but Puerto Rico
took a two point lead 12-10 that USA cut to reach the second
technical time-out up 16-15. Neither one was dominant; USA
won the set 25-20 .

Dominican Republic defeat Canada in NORCECA Semifinal
MORELIA, Mexico, October 1, 2015.- Dominican Republic
defeated Canada 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20) to reach
the Gold Medal match of the NORCECA Women’s Continental
Championship being held at Bicentenario Auditorium of
Morelia, Michoacan. Canada had an early 6-2 lead with good
blocking and scoring on Dominican Republic errors. Dominican
Republic pushed hard with serves to tie 8-8, and forcing
longer rallies; Canada kept their blocking effective leading
again 14-10, giving more confidence to their offense to
finish 25-18.

Cuba to play Mexico for fifth place
MORELIA, Mexico, October 1, 2015.- Cuba dominated Trinidad
and Tobago 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-14) and will face Mexico in
the match for fifth place of the NORCECA Women’s Continental
Championship at Bicentenario Auditorium of Morelia,
Michoacan. Cubans took advantage of Trinidad and Tobago’s 33
errors and limited their faults to 11, they held 30-24
margin in spikes, 10-6 in blocks and 2-1 in aces. Opposite
Heidy Rodriguez of Cuba topped all scorers with 14 points, 9
on kills, 4 on blocks and 1 ace.

Mexico to play for fifth place at NORCECA Women
MORELIA, Mexico, October 1, 2015. - Mexico defeated Costa
Rica 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-13) to play for fifth place of
the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship at Bicentenario
Auditorium of Morelia, Michoacan. Mexico held a 28-20 margin
in spikes, 6-2 in blocks and 6-3 in serves. Mexico took
advantage of Costa Rica’s faults, scoring 35 points on their
opponents’ errors. Opposite Dulce Carranza led Mexico’s
offensive with 10 points, Outside Hitter Lizbeth Sainz
contributed with 9 points and Outside Hitter Andrea Rangel
chipped in with 7 points. Costa Rica’s Opposite Mijal Hines
led all scorers with 12 points and Outside Hitter Evelyn
Sibaja scored 7 points. “It was important to give our
younger members of the team an opportunity to perform today”
said captian Dulce Carranza.

Canada grabs the last spot to the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier
MORELIA, Mexico, September 30, 2015.- Canada beat Mexico 3-2
(22-25, 25-15, 25-17, 21-25, 15-8) to grab the last spot
available for the NORCECA Women’s Olympic Qualification
Tournament to be held in January. In front of more than
3,000 spectators at Bicentenario Auditorium, Canada fought
hard for the dramatic five set win that puts them in the
semifinals of the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship
against Dominican Republic. Mexico jumped to an early lead
11-9 with powerful kills, while Canada remained calm and
started to counterattack with their tall blockers. Canada
never gave up and Mexico’s fans.

Puerto Rico clinches NORCECA Pre-Olympic Berth
MORELIA, Mexico, September 30, 2015. - Puerto Rico downed
Cuba 3-1 (25-20, 14-25, 25-27, 25-18) at the NORCECA Women’s
Continental Championship to clinch a berth into the NORCECA
Qualification Olympic Tournament. Puerto Rico became the
third team to qualify to January’s competition, where the
top NORCECA team will win the ticket to the Rio Olympic

the four tickets to the NORCECA Olympic Qualification
Tournament while finishing first in Pool B at the NORCECA
Women’s Continental Championship. Dominicans advanced into
the semifinals with 3-0 record and 13 points. Mexico takes
third place with 2-1 record and 7 points. Mexico faces
Canada in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Dominican Republic

preliminary round with 2-1 record and eight points, to
advance into the quarterfinals of the competition; Costa

took an early lead of 8-4 in the first set, as they took
advantage of their height and kept on going to double the
score and finish 25-15. Starting set two, Canada began

(1-1) with seven points; Costa Rica has 0-2 record. Cuba

Eight teams to play at NORCECA Volleyball Women’s Continental
MORELIA, Mexico, September 25, 2015 – Two-time defending
champions United States, Canada, Cuba and Costa Rica in Pool A
and Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Trinidad and
Tobago in Pool B are the teams to compete at the NORCECA
Volleyball Women’s Continental Championship from September 27 to
October 2.
The 24th edition of the biennial competition will be held at the
Auditorio de Universidad Michoacana with four daily matches.
The top four ranked teams at the conclusion of the eight-team
event will advance to the Final Four NORCECA Olympic
Qualification Tournament where the first placed side will book a
direct ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
