Natalia Martinez earns second MVP title of 2016
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 8, 2016 – Natalia Martinez of
Dominican Republic was named the Most Valuable Player of the NORCECA Girls’ U18 Volleyball Continental Championship won by
her team on Wednesday night.
Martinez, who was the overall best scorer of the event with 114
points, registered 33 and 29 points in the two matches of
five-sets played by the Dominican Republic against the United
States.

Dominican Republic repeats as NORCECA U-18 champions
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 7, 2016 - Dominican Republic
achieved its second consecutive U-18 continental title by
defeating the United States in dramatic fashion.
The Dominicans rallied from a 0-2 deficit to beat the United
States in five sets by scores of 18-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20,
15-13. "I am thrilled to achieve this second consecutive title.
It was great match and we managed to recover to achieve victory"
said Alexandre Ceccato, coach of Dominican Republic. Natalie
Martinez was the best scorer with 29 points and Madeline Guillen
contributed 22.

Third Place for Mexico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 7, 2016 - Mexico
defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 to finish in third place at the NORCECA
U-18 Continental Championship. Mexican controlled the
match from start to finish and achieved the victory with scores
25-20, 25-18, 25-19. Uxue Guereca led Mexico with 15 points,
followed by Daniela Siller and Karla Mireles who finished with
10 points each. "It was a great triumph. The group knew how
important was to win this game. Now we will try to qualify for
the World Championship at the Pan American Cup," said, Mexico

Costa Rica finished in fifth place
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 7, 2016 - In a fought
match Costa Rica beat Guatemala 3-1 to claim the fifth place at
the NORCECA U-18 Continental Championship.
The Costa Ricans lost the first set 25-21 but then pressed with
their experience as Central American champions to prevail 25-15,
25-22, 25-23. Costa Rica finished in fifth place in the
tournament and qualified to 2017 U-18 Pan American Cup. Tamara Espinoza from Costa Rica again led the scoring with 21
points.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 6, 2016 - United
States defeated Puerto Rico in five sets to advance to the
final of the NORCECA U18 Continental Championship and
qualify for the FIVB World Championship. The scores of the
match were 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10. United States
will face Dominican Republic in the finals (20:00 - Local
Time) while Puerto Rico will play for third place against
Mexico at 18:00 (local time).

Republic qualified to its seventh FIVB U-18 World

defeated French St. Maarten 3-0 and will face Costa Rica for
the fifth place in the Championship. Guatemala dominated
