Nicole Fawcett MVP of XII Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 16 2013- United States’ Nicole Fawcett earned
the honors as Most Valuable Player of the XII Movistar Women’s
Pan American Cup. The emerging American star received her trophies at the closing
ceremony of the event chaired by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz,
president of NORCECA Confederation and Pan American Union,
Rafael Lloreda, president of the South American Confederation
and Luis Linares, president of the Peruvian Volleyball
Federation.
Fawcett also was awarded as Best Server, while teammates Kyla
Banwarth and Megan Hodge were recipients of the honors as Best

possession of the throne in Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 16,
2013 – Defending champions United States swept past Dominican
Republic 25-12, 25-20, 25-18 to capture the gold medal of the
Movistar Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Eduardo Dibos
Coliseum of Lima on Sunday night. It was a powerful performance
by the Americans who relied on their strong serves and a
consistent blocking. The winners held a 13-3 difference in the
blocks and led in attacks 36-28. Nicole Fawcett was the leading

Puerto Rico defeats Cuba, to finish fifth
CALLAO, Peru, June 16 2013 - Puerto Rico defeated Cuba 3-2
(24-26, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-9) and finished in fifth place
at the XII Movistar Women’s Pan American Cup that concluded its
classification rounds at the Miguel Grau Coliseum. Karina Ocasio scored 17 points and Yarimar Rosa 16 for Puerto
Rico. Sheila Ocasio finished with 13, Ania Ruiz with 12 and
Linda Morales scored 10. Cuba came from behind on the fourth to tie the set 21-21, but
Puerto Rico worked hard on the blocking game and forced a fifth
set.
Ana Yilian Cleger tallied 18 points while Rosana Giel 16.

Canada sweeps Peru for seventh place
LIMA, Peru, June 16, 2013 – Canada swept past Peru 25-21, 25-14,
25-19 in the match for seventh place of the Movistar Women’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup on Saturday night at Eduardo Dibos
Coliseum of Lima.
The Canadians dominated 11-2 in the blocking category and 5-2 in
service winners while scoring on 20 errors by the opponents
while committing 15.
Shanice Marcelle, Margaret Barclay and Kyla Richey finished with
13, 12 and 10 points for the winning side whileJaimie Thibeault
had 9, with three blocks included. Raffaela Camet and Angelica
Aquino finished with 10 and 9 points respectively in the losing
cause.

Colombia edges Trinidad & Tobago 3-2
CALLAO, Peru, June 16 2013 - Colombia overcame and defeated
Trinidad and Tobago in a five-set match (19-25, 13-25, 25-18,
25-14, 15-13) for the ninth place at XII Women’s Movistar Pan
American Cup at the Miguel Grau Coliseum. Danna Escobar tallied 19 points for Colombia, Paola Ampudia 16
and Melissa Rangel 12 (4 aces). Trinidadian captain Krystle
Esdelle scored 27 while Channon Thompson finished with 19 for
Trinidad and Tobago, including 4 aces. The Colombians, who
played with many athletes of the U-20 category earned their
second victory at Pan Am Cup and finished in the number nine.

Bronze medal for Argentina
LIMA, Peru, June 16, 2013 – Argentina defeated Brazil in
straight sets 25-23, 25-22, 25-15 to grab the bronze medal of
the Movistar Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Eduardo
Dibos Coliseum on Sunday.
It is the second bronze medal for Argentina in the history of
the event with the previous one attained in 2008 in Tijuana,
Mexico.
Lucia Fresco and Emilce Sosa topped the winners with 18 and 15
points, respectively. Sosa had 4 blocks of the 13 scored by the
Argentina while Fresco added three. Brazil’s Gabriela Guimaraes
and Sara Silva posted 14 and 13 points.

LIMA, Peru, June 15, 2013 – Cuba booked a spot in the 2014 Grand
Prix defeating hosts Peru 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-16) in a
match for the 5-to-8 positions of the Movistar Women’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup.
The Cubans now wait for the winner of the match between Puerto
Rico and Canada to play for the fifth position.

Dominican Republic makes return to the podium
LIMA, Peru, June 15, 2013 – Dominican Republic advanced to the
gold medal match of the Movistar Women’s Volleyball Pan American
Cup defeating Argentina 25-18, 25-18, 25-11 on Saturday at
Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima.
The victory allowed the Dominican team to secure a return to the
podium they missed last year for the first time in the history
of the competition when finished in fourth place in Ciudad
Juarez, Mexico.
The load of the winning offense was shared by Prisilla Rivera,
Candida Arias and Bethania De la Cruz with 13, 12 and 11 points
respectively. Annerys Vargas chipped in with eight.

25-5 margin forced to dust off the books
LIMA, Peru, June 15, 2013 – When Puerto Rico stopped Costa Rica
to only five points in the first set of their victory at Miguel
Grau Coliseum in Callao on Friday night the feat marked one of
the most lopsided sets in the history of the Women’s Pan
American Cup.
The receiving end was still the same, but the all-time record
belongs for the biggest set difference belongs to United States
with a 25-2 third set victory over Costa Rica on June 21, 2010
at the IX Pan Am Cup held in Tijuana, Mexico.

CALLAO, Peru, June 14, 2013 - Brazil qualified to the semifinals
at the Movistar Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup following a

15-9. Gabriela Braga Guimaraes led Brazil with 27 points, while Silvia
Aparecida totaled 12.

Peru overcome Mexico to win a five-setter
LIMA, Peru, June 14, 2013 – Hosts Peru edged Mexico in a
five-set thriller (20-25, 26-28, 25-20, 25-17, 16-14) in a

IQUITOS, Peru, June 12, 2013 – Canada qualified to the
quarterfinals of the XII Pan American Women’s Cup by defeating

IQUITOS, Peru, June 12, 2013 – In another exhausting match
played at Juan Pinasco Villanueva Coliseum of the warm Iquitos,
Cuba won 3-2 over hosts Peru by scores of 19-25, 25-21, 20-25,
25-22, 15-12 in more than two hours on Wednesday.
Playing under a noisy partisan crown, the Cubans were able to
keep their effectiveness in their attack scoring 61 points
against 47 by the Peruvians, besides relying on their blocking

Second highest scoring set in history of Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru, June 11, 2013 – The fourth set won by the Dominican
Republic against Brazil 35-33 on Monday night in the city of
Huacho, qualified as the second highest scoring set in the
history of the Women’s Pan American Cup, according to the Press

The all-time record is a 36-34 first set established on July 3,

Marathon victory for Dominican Republic over Brazil
HUACHO, Peru, June 10 2013 - Dominican Republic prevailed in a
well fought fourth set to defeat Brazil 3-1 (21-25, 25-20,
25-21, 35-33) in a match of the Movistar Women’s Pan American
Cup that lasted more than two hours .
Yonkaira Peña recorded 22 points for the Dominican team while
Captain Bethania de la Cruz finished with 19 tallies and
Stephany Arias chipped in 11. For the Brazilian team Sara Silva
and Gabi Guimaraes scored 15 apiece while Captain Rosamaria
Montibeller and Valquiria each recorded 14 points.

USA makes debut with cruising victory
CALLAO, Peru, June 10, 2013 – Defending champions United States
breezed past Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-13) in the
second match of Pool A of the Movistar Women’s Pan American Cup
at Coliseo Miguel Grau on Monday.
The Americans established a fast tempo and balanced attack while
dominating in blockings (13-4) and service aces (9-0).
Lauren Gibbenmeyer led USA with 11 points, including three
blocks, while Kristin Hildebrand added 10. Nicole Fawcett had 6
aces among her nine points and Rachel Adams had 8 points with
four blocks.

Bricio reappears in Mexican victory over Colombia
HUACHO, Peru, June 10 2013 - Samantha Bricio made a successful
return to her national team while Mexico defeated Colombia 3-0
(25-18, 25-23, 25-16) in Pool C of the Movistar Women’s Pan
American Cup at the “Mayor Fernando Antonio Suarez Coliseum.
Bricio scored 22 points while Lizbeth Seomara Sainz finished
with 9 for Mexico. On the Colombian side, Danna Escobar tallied

Argentina opens with victory over Puerto Rico
CALLAO, Peru, June 10, 2013 – Argentina opened the Movistar
Women’s Pan American Cup with a straight-set (25-23, 25-21,
25-15) victory over Puerto Rico in action of Pool A at Coliseo
Miguel Grau on Monday.
Puerto Rico experienced reception difficulties the whole match
while Argentina showed a consistent blocking.
Paula Nizetich led Argentina with 14 points followed by Lucia
Fresco and Emilce Sosa with 11 and 10 respectively. Josefina
Fernandez and Natalia Aispirua contributed 9 and 8. For Puerto
Rico Lynda Morales finished with 9 points.
Argentina held advantages of 13-9 in blocking and 6-2 in aces.
Both teams gave away 20 points via unforced errors.

Coaches of twelve teams ready for the challenge in Peru
LIMA, Peru, June 10, 2013 – The XII Women’s Pan American Cup
serves off on Monday in three cities of Peru and teams battling
for six spots in next year’s FIVB World Grand Prix. The coaches of the teams were asked to express their comments
after the preliminary enquiries carried at the different sites,

Women’s Pan American Cup is about to start
LIMA, Peru, June 8, 2013 – The Organizing Committee of the XII
Women’s Pan American Cup and the members of the Control
Committee from NORCECA and South American Confederations held a
joint meeting on Thursday night to review all the details
towards the start of the competition next Monday.
The meeting at Delfines Hotel in the Miraflores section of Lima
was chaired by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA and
the Pan American Union and Luis Linares, president of the

Women’s Pan Am Cup visits South America for the first time
LIMA, Peru, June 6, 2013 – The Women’s Pan American Cup will be
contested on South American soil for the first time as the
intercontinental event visits three cities of Peru from June 10
to 16 with the participation of teams from 12 countries.
The tournament offers six tickets –four to NORCECA and two to
South America- to next year’s FIVB World Grand Prix, the premier
annual women’s event.
Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and hosts Peru are the
representatives of South America while Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba,
Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and
United States.

USA win the gold in dramatic fashion
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 20, 2012 – USA bounced back from a
0-2 deficit to win the gold medal of the XI Women’s Pan American
Cup following a dramatic five-set victory (28-30, 18-25, 25-22,
25-21, 15-11) over Brazil on Friday in front of a full house at
Colegio de Bachilleres Gymnasium of Juarez. It is the second
title for USA team in the history of the competition with the
previous one in 2003 at Saltillo, Mexico. For the three-time
champions Brazil the silver medal was their third.
