Nicholas Hoag is the MVP of the Continental Championship
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 10, 2015 - Nicholas Hoag of Canada
was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the Norceca
Men’s Continental Championship. Hoag was also recognized as
Best Server of the competition that finished on Saturday
after his team beat Cuba 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-18, 25-17) in
the finals. “It feels amazing, I owe it everything to
my team. I think they did a tremendous job helping me at
change position in the middle of the tournament. So it was
really hard for me. They helped me. I think my team is the
MVP of this tournament. I’m glad we won it all together,”
said Hoag. The Best Scorer Award was given to Richard
Smith Hall of Costa Rica.

Canada wins first Men’s continental championship
CORDOBA,
Mexico, October 10, 2015 - Canada conquered its first
Norceca Men’s Continental Championship after winning against
Cuba 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-18 and 25-17).
John Gordon Perrin finished as top scorer for the Canadian
team, after registering a total of 18 points. He was
followed by Nicholas Hoag, who finished with 15 and Justin
Duff, who scored 12. For Cuba, Osmany Santiago Uriarte,
scored 12 points while Javier Ernesto Jimenez Scull and
Rolando Cepeda tallied 10 apiece.
Both teams were tied in blocks (10-10), while Canada worked
hard with the service and dominated the duel 6-2, with three
aces.

Puerto Rico wins bronze medal at Continental Championship
CÓRDOBA, Mexico, October 10, 2015 - Puerto Rico won the
bronze medal after beating Mexico in three sets by scores of
25-23, 25-21 and 25-19.
Jackson Rivera yand Maurice Torres scored 13 puntos apiece,
while Eddie Rivera closed with 11 (2 aces) for Puerto Rico.
On the Mexican side, Jorge Barajas tallied15.
Puerto Rico finished with a slight 3-2 blocking advantage.
Both teams tied in collective aces by serving 3 each.

Trinidad and Tobago closes with a victory and in sixth place
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 10, 2015 - Trinidad and Tobago
closed with a victory at the Norceca Men’s Continental
Championship and won the sixth place after defeating Costa
Rica 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-23).
Ryan Stewart recorded 14 points while Marc Honore closed
with 12 and Simon Blake with 10 for the Trinidadian team
that worked hard on the blocking game against Costa Rica,
whose best player was Julio Álvarez with 11 points, while
Richard Smith Hall closed with 9, including 3 aces.
Trinidad and Tobago surpassed Costa Rica in blocks 12-2,
while Costa Rica tried to work more with their services to
finish 5-4.

Canada to play for Gold against Cuba
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 9, 2015 - Canada overcame after a
1-2 adverse advantage and won the semifinal match against
Mexico in five sets by scores of 20-25, 25-16, 18-25, 25-17
and 15 to play for the gold medal at the Norceca Men’s
Continental Championship. Mexico dominated in the first and
third set, however Canada knew how to react in the fourth
and forced a tie-breaker. John Gordon Perrin finished as top
scorer with 21 points, while Nicholas Hoag scored 19 (2
aces) and Daniel Jansen Van Doorn, concluded with 14.

Cuba becomes the first finalist at Men’s Continental
Championship
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 9, 2015 - Rolando Cepeda scored 24
points in the four setter victory of Cuba against Puerto
Rico to clinch a berth in the Norceca Men’s Continental
Championship Finals. Cuba won 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-23 and
25-22) after 2 hours and 20 minutes of playing time to
become the first finalist of the tournament that concludes
on Saturday. Along with Cepeda, Ernesto Javier Jimenez Scull
figured with double digits after scoring 12 points, while
Livan Osoria and Tomas Sosa tallied 11 apiece. For Puerto
Rico, captain Hector Soto scored 13 points and Maurice
Torres finished with 10.

Honduras wins fifth place in five setter victory
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 9, 2015 - Honduras finished in
fifth place at the NORCECA Men's Continental Championship
after a five setter win against Costa Rica by scores of
25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 15 -6. The team coached by
Cuban Marcos Tejeda had three players with double digits as
Frank Alley scored 25 points, while Jorge Rivera closed with
16 and captain Luis Salgado with 14. Meanwhile, Costa Rica,
had four with more than ten units. Richard Smith Hall
recorded 25 points, while Julio Alberto Alvarez closed with

Mexico beats Honduras and clinches a berth in Top Four
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 8, 2015 - Mexico won against
Honduras 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-22) to clinch a berth in the
semifinals and recovered from the defeat against Cuba on
Wednesday. Guerson Acosta and Jorge Barajas commanded the
Mexican attack with 7 units apiece. Luis Salgado, captain of
Honduras topped for the Central American team after closing
with a total of 10 points, while Wilfredo Lopez scored 9.
The hosts worked hard with their serve to dominate Honduras
6-1 with 3 aces by Pedro Rangel and out-blocked the Central
Americans 8-6 with a solid performance by Alejandro Moreno,
who registered four blocking points.

Puerto Rico beats Costa Rica to secure a spot in semis
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 8, 2015 - Puerto Rico qualified to
the semifinals at the NORCECA Men's Continental Volleyball
Championship after winning in three sets against Costa Rica
by scores of 25-17, 25-19 at 25-19 in the quarterfinals
round. Hector Soto had 12 points for that Puerto Rican
squad, that is already part of the top four teams of the
competition and secured a berth in the Final 4 Tournament
which gives one ticket to the Olympic Games in 2016. On the
Costa Ricas side, Richard Smith Hall closed the match with
12 points.

Cuba beat Mexico and advance to semifinals
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 7, 2015 - Cuba defeated Mexico in
straight sets and became the second team that advanced to
the semifinals at the Norceca Men's Continental
Championship. Scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-14. Osmany
Uriarte scored 13 points for Cuba while Rolando Cepeda
notched 9. For Mexico, Ivan Marquez finished with 5. Cuba
overcame Mexico in blocks 11-2 and Mexico worked hard with

Canada qualify to semifinals at Men’s Continental
Championship
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 7, 2015 - Canada defeated Puerto
Rico in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-23 and
secured a spot in the Top Four teams at the Norceca Men’s
Continental Championship. Jon Gordon Perrin scored 15 for
Canada and Nicholas Hoag 11, while Eddie Rivera finised with
6 points for Puerto Rico. Canada out-blocked Puerto Rico
8-5 while both teams finished tied in aces 2-2. Hector Soto
captain of Puerto Rico, said: "In the first two sets we made
many mistakes. We started down those first two sets and
could never recover,. and in the third set there were some
changes that helped us to mantain a level, but we could not

Championship
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 7, 2015 - Costa Rica claimed their
first victory at Norceca Men’s Continental Championship
after beating Trinidad and Tobago in four sets in Pool B by
scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-21. The Costa Ricans
had their top scorer in Richard Smith who recorded 25
unitsregistered, including four aces, while Julio Alvarez
was their second best man with 12 points. Trinidad and
Tobago had three players with double digits, after his
captain Ryan Stewart closed with 19 points and Simon Blake
with 17. Meanwhile, Brandon Legall had 12. The Caribbean
team leaded in blocks 9- 3.

their undefeated streak at the Norceca Men’s Continental
Championship. Nestor Orellana topped with 13 points and six
blocks. Guerson Acosta also recorded six blocking points in
the 3-0 win over the Central American team. Scores were
25-21, 25-18, and 25-19. Captain Jorge Barajas also

The Celebration starts at the Cordoba Arena
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 6, 2015 - The activities of the
NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship had also a special
touch on second day. This happened after the official
opening ceremony of the competition at the Cordoba Arena,
where authorities and fans were present, along with the
Vidanza Folk Ballet that performend some traditional dances
from the Veracruz region. Also a Rock mini-concert took
part by the local band Revolver. The Mayor of Cordoba,
Jaime Rios Tomas Bernal, who delivered a message to the
audience also declared.

Puerto Rico prevail over Honduras in straight sets
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 6, 2015 - Puerto Rico prevailed
over Honduras 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-13) to record their
first victory in Pool A at the Norceca Men’s Continental
Championship. Maurice Torres, Mannix Roman and Sequiel
Sanchez closed as top scorers for Puerto Rico after scoring
9 points apiece. Ornello Watler was the best scorer for
Honduras, after finishing with seven points. Puerto Rico
overcame Honduras in serves 3-0 and 5-3 in blocks and
surrendered 20 points in errors, against 26 by Honduras.

and Tobago in straight sets to grab their second victory in
Pool B at the Norceca Men’s Continental Championship. The
team coached by Rodolfo Sanchez won 25-11, 25-13 and 25-12
with a blocking and service dominance. Cuba served 10 aces
against none by Trinidad and Tobago, and also finished with
a 9-1 blocking advantage. Rolando Cepeda closed as top
scorer for Cuba with 9 points, followed by Javier Ernesto
Jimenez Scull, who finished with 8. Meanwhile, Ryan Stewart

Mexico beat a resilient Trinidad and Tobago
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 5 2015 - The Olympic qualification
process in the Norceca region has just begun after the first
day of activities at the Cordoba Arena, where hosts Mexico
defeated Trinidad and Tobago in three sets.
Mexico won by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-22 with Nestor
Orellana as top scorer for the local team after recording 12
points.
Ryan
Stewart and Simon Blake topped for Trinidad and Tobago with
10 apiece. Stewart even served two aces for the Trinidadian
team that surprised Mexico in the first and third sets,
however Mexican defense was key to solve the match in three
with a 29-17 excellent advantage.

3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-10) with a solid serving and blocking
performance to clinch their first victory in Pool A at the
Norceca Men’s Continental Championship. Nicholas Hoag
tallied 17 points, including five aces, for Canada that also
overcame Honduras in blocks (11-3) and in services (11-1).
Daniel Cornelius Jansen Vandoorn also contributed with 8
points for the team coached by Glenn Hoag. Honduras, that
compete at this Continental Championship thanks to the
support of the Olympic Solidarity Fund, had their best man
in captain Luis Salgado.

Volleyball Confederation, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz remarked

Seven Teams begin their quest for Olympic Qualifier
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 4, 2015 – The twenty fourth edition of
the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship gets underway on
Monday at Cordoba Arena with seven teams seeking a top-four
position which guarantees a spot at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic
Qualification Tournament to be held in early January. Canada,
Honduras and Puerto Rico will be competing in the three-team
Pool A while Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago will
battle in Pool B. The top team from each pool will advance
directly to the semifinals securing a spot in the Final Four
Olympic Qualifier while the teams placed second and third from
each pool will meet in crossed quarterfinals matches.

Volleyball is back at the Cordoba Arena
CORDOBA, Mexico, October 3, 2015 - The Cordoba Arena prepares to
receive the best teams of the region for the Norceca Men’s
Continental Championship, a competition that is also a
classification tournament for the Olympic Qualifier to Rio 2016.
NORCECA Control Committee Officers held their first official
meeting and preliminari inspections along with the Local
Organizing Committee Members in order to analyze the details of
the tournament that marks the return of volleyball to the venue
that hosted this sport at the last edition of the Central
American and Caribbean Games of Veracruz 2014.
