Dominican Gaila Gonzalez named MVP at U20 Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 23, 2015
– Gaila Gonzalez of Dominican Republic was recipient of the
honors as Most Valuable Player at the U20 Women’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup that concluded on Friday with the victory of her
home side. The lefty Gonzalez, who shared the scoring title with
Mexico’s Maria Rodriguez with 99 points, recorded a
tournament-high 26 points at the gold medal match against
Argentina.

Dominicans are crowned at U20 Pan American Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 24, 2015 – The
Dominican Republic captured the gold medal at the U20
Women’s Pan American Cup by defeating Argentina 3-1 (25-20,
25-22, 20-25, 25-15) in front of a noisy crowd of over 3,000
spectators at Ricardo Arias Pavilion of Santo Domingo on
Friday night. Gaila Gonzalez, who was named the Most
Valuable Player, had a tournament-high 26 points to lead
four Dominican players.

Chile wins bronze medal at U20 Pan Am Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 24, 2015 – Chile
defeated Mexico 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18) in the match
for the bronze medal at the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup on
Friday.
Analia Carvajal was the offensive star for Chile with 23 points,
including three blocks and one ace, followed by the captain
Catalina Melo and Catalina Pulgar with 18 and 12 points.

Costa Rica claims fifth place at U20 Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 24, 2015 – Costa Rica
defeated Nicaragua 3-1 (25-23, 12-25, 25-21, 25-16) in the match
for the fifth position at the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup at
Ricardo Arias Pavilion in Santo Domingo on Friday.
It was the second victory in as many days for the Costa Rican
side over their Central American rivals.
Each team made 30 unforced errors and scored with 7 blocks. The
winners held a slight advantage in attacks 40-37 while the
defeated side edged in the aces category 11-10.

Dominican Republic took down Mexico in straight sets (25-21,
25-16, 25-9) to finish the round-robin phase of the U20
Women’s Pan American Cup with a spotless win-loss record of
5-0. The Dominicans will play Argentina for the gold medal
while Mexico will challenge Chile for the bronze medal on
Friday night.

place and a berth in Friday’s gold medal match against hosts

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 23, 2015 – Costa
Rica defeated Nicaragua 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) in a match
between Central American teams who entered the match winless
at the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo. These
two teams will meet again on Friday for the fifth position
of the six-team tournament. Tania Carazo and Tatiana Sayles
were the best scorers for Costa Rica with 12 and 11 points,
respectively.

evened their record at 2-2 in the U20 Women’s Pan American
Cup after a straight-set (25-10, 25-15, 25-8) victory over
Nicaragua who dropped their fourth match in a row on
Wednesday. The Chileans outscored the Nicaraguans in attacks
(32-17) and serving aces (8-2) while each teams had three
blocks. Catalina Melo was the top scorers for the winners
with 13 points.

Mexico improves to 3-1 at U20 Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 22, 2015 – Mexico
downed Costa Rica in straight-set (25-10, 25-10, 25-11) on
Wednesday to improve their win-loss record to 3-1 at the U20
Women’s Pan American Cup taking place in Santo Domingo.
Costa Rica dropped to 0-4 for the tournament and will meet
Nicaragua on Thursday in a contest between Central American
teams. Mexico finishes the round-robin preliminary phase
with a match against hosts Dominican Republic. The winners
landed 22 serving aces led by Mitzy Gonzalez.

the victory over the weak Nicaraguans who suffered their

was one of the keys to the victory of the South American

playing against teams of Japan and United States ahead of the
competition, said Wagner Pacheco, the Brazilian coach of the
local squad. Argentina’s Mauro Silvestre is optimistic about

all the requirements and were authorized to play following

Pavillion of Santo Domingo with teams from six countries taking

Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica and Nicaragua join hosts Dominican
Republic in the six-day event. Peru won the first edition of the
event held at home in 2011 while Mexico triumphed in 2013 when
the competition was held in Havana, Cuba.
