FIVB President Rubén Acosta definitively acquitted by Swiss court

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, May 15, 2006 – The former president of the Argentinean Volleyball Federation, Mario Goijman, had accused FIVB President Rubén Acosta of manipulation of accounts and corruption. These accusations were declared null and without foundation by the Tribunal de Police in Lausanne in a ruling made public on 15 March 2006. Mario Goijman immediately announced his intention to appeal against this ruling acquitting President Acosta, who had been the target of his attacks for three and a half years. The fact is that after having made his appeal Mario Goijman failed to substantiate it. The appeals court therefore declared the appeal inadmissible and rejected it in a ruling of 4 May 2006. This ruling is enforceable. President Acosta is consequently definitively cleared of all charges. This therefore confirms what the President of the FIVB had always claimed when confronted with the accusations brought against him by Mario Goijman. Mr Acosta is happy that this legal ruling puts an end to an affair that has for too long been used as in attempts to tarnish his reputation and, through him, the reputation of the International Volleyball Federation.
